#135: On a weekend road trip, far away from home, you stumble upon a garage sale in a neighbourhood you’re passing through. Astonished, you find an object among the belongings for sale that you recognise. Tell us about it.
I’m not one for attending garage sales or car boot sales (as they’re called here in the UK), but it was a particularly sunny day and, quite frankly, I had no other plans! As I perused the many tables of brick-a-brac, a glint of something in the distance, sat amongst a half empty table caught my eye. As I neared this display of pre-loved goods, my excitement grew… I’d finally found it! Nestled neatly around the neck of a tall vase (odd way to display it but I guess it worked), was the necklace that had been stolen from us a few years back by plasterers that had come to patch up our ceiling, following some unavoidable water damage. This necklace was so special as it had been bought during a family holiday in Florida, after seeing manatees – my mums favourite animal. Without a second thought, I asked for it to be removed from the vase and be boxed up. I didn’t even think to barter for it as it was only a quarter of the original price. I couldn’t wait to give it back to her!
