25/31 Why we gotta have favourites?

25. Your five favourite blogs

Since I’ve only recently come back to WordPress, I haven’t had a chance to fully explore all of the new content new bloggers have to offer. So, to make it fair, I’ll simply list the last five blogs I’ve followed…

1) Tifness

I’ve only just taken a look at Latifa’s blog in the last couple of days and I’m not disappointed. I love to travel and I love food, so this is the perfect combination! My flatmate cannot eat wheat so we are often making gluten-free recipes when we have meals together. For example, this Sunday we made deep-fried, stuffed courgette flowers; gluten free pea and asparagus ravioli with parmesan; and sticky toffee pudding with Madagascan vanilla custard… the custard is the only part of the feast we hadn’t made from scratch. So it’s safe to say, we are serious about our food! I’m looking forward to making some of Latifa’s recipes in future 🙂

2) Wilson Reviews

Jake is someone I work with at The Week Junior and it was only last week, at our 25th issue anniversary/we won Launch of the Year at the British Media Awards drinks, that I found out he was also on WordPress. He writes about the latest and greatest movies out there, as well as recommending titles that people may not already be familiar with. Just be sure not to read too many in one go, as it’ll leave you struggling to decide which film to watch first!

3) Cooking with a Wallflower

Andrea has so many amazing recipes… all of which I would like to make. Well, I should be more specific – eat! Every time the pictures manage to make my mouth water. I don’t even have to know what it is, I just want to take a bite.

4) We Love Food

I see a trend here… I clearly love food, too! What I like about Saff and Ade is that they not only write about what they eat, they also describe the atmosphere and overall experience all the while injecting humour into each post. I may or may not be using their reviews as more of a to do list since they’re mostly London based.

5) Second blog to the right

And if you don’t get this reference… what planet do you live on?! One of my other great loves is theatre. I found this blog because of their Cirque du Soleil reviews and it was only when I took a look at what they had previously reviewed, that I discovered they also love Disney and had seen the Toddlerz Ball. I can’t wait to see what’s next!

Finally!

Howdee fellow bloggers!

I’ve got some exciting news… well, I feel very excited about it anyway! For those of you who joined me on my newly embarked blogging journey last year, you would have noticed that I had taken up the 365 Days of Writing Prompts challenge set by the wonderful WordPress team. I must admit that I thoroughly enjoyed it (and I hope the people who read them did too) as everyday was something new and it also gave me something to look forward to (and time permitting, really sink my teeth into it!).

So, now we’re in 2015 and I couldn’t decide what to do next with my blog. In all honesty, I still don’t feel like I’ve found a specific area in which I’d like to stick to writing about as, quite simply, I like writing about a wide variety of things! Therefore, I’ve decided that this year I am going to start VLOGGING!

Since my work video projects in Norway a few months ago, I’ve realised that I really enjoy video editing and presenting. So, with the help of a very dear friend of mine who gave me some fantastic advice and encouragement, I’ve been looking into gaps in the vlogging market. Luckily, I think we’ve found one that could work quite well as not only am I passionate about these topics but I can’t seem to find anyone that does anything similar.

If any fellow vloggers have any tips or advice on how to start my vlogging journey, they’d be greatly appreciated.

Stay tuned and I hope you enjoy what’s to come!

Sink or swim

#337: Tell us about a time when you were left on your own, to fend for yourself in an overwhelming situation — on the job, at home, at school. What was the outcome?

Well, I’ll let my fellow bloggers decide whether it was a successful outcome…

For a little back story, it all began back in 2012 on my Iceland press trip (in celebration of the Ice Age 4 DVD release), where I was sent alone to represent the magazine among other publications and broadcasters from across the globe. I was also the guinea pig, the first person to do a filmed interview and a piece to camera, and without any training or practice I should add! The next filming opportunity that I was given, took place earlier this year, where I interviewed an animatronic Nigel the cockatoo from Rio 2 (Jemaine Clement was voicing him from another room) – as I’m sure everyone will agree, a most peculiar experience.

Thus bringing me to my latest project (as you can see above) – heading to Norway to celebrate the release of How To Train Your Dragon 2 on Blu-Ray and DVD. This was entirely my project; I prepared the scripts, presented and interviewed, as well as produced and edited each and every clip! It’s made me realise that this is what I want to do as a full-time career – even though it’s only my third project of this nature.

Check out my other clips below and let me know what you think!

Halloweeny!

#304: If bloggers had their own Halloween and could go from blog to blog collecting “treats,” what would your blog hand out?

I have absolutely no idea… Music? Photographs? Even though I have these passions, I wouldn’t class them as suitable gifts for other bloggers and I’ve never been particularly good at craft making – so it would be a surprise for everyone!

Release me

#293: Tell us about the blog post you were most nervous to publish — and what it was like to set it free.

In all honesty I don’t think there has been a post that I was ‘nervous’ to publish… I wouldn’t say that they are ever risquĂ© in the slightest, which I’m assuming is why I’ve never felt that way towards what I’ve written. I guess the only level or factor of nervousness that applies in a very minor form, is the fact that I seem to feel slight apprehension just before I click ‘Publish to chloemayward’ thinking “what if no-one likes it?”. But then again, I’m sure this is a common feeling that occurs to all bloggers once in a while.

P.s. I will be catching up with Thursday 16th – Sunday 19th’s posts tomorrow, as the wifi in Norway wasn’t the easiest thing to keep hold of/ Plus trying to write blog posts on my (crummy old) phone was near impossible. I still don’t count this as a fail because I was sent on a last minute work trip, so couldn’t write them in advance either.

Great or greatest

#182: What makes a blog great? What makes you follow a blog or “Like” a post?

Before I start answering today’s blog prompt, I’d just like to say a huge thank you to Joshua Price for his kind words within his answer for today. You have honestly made my day! We’re currently on press week here at the magazine, so everything is a little hectic and after reading it, I was grinning like a Cheshire cat! Definitely head over and check out his take on the 365 days of writing prompts challenge – it’s always so enjoyable!

So, what makes a blog great you say? For me, the content needs to have an element of honesty, in the way that bloggers are writing about their own opinions, views and experiences, as opposed to having to write something they don’t believe in (I guess this is mostly applicable when it comes to reviewing but I suppose people could be using this challenge to review their life… anyway, I digress!). I just think if you enjoy what you’re writing and are passionate about it, then it IS great! I also agree with Joshua in the fact that gaining followers/popularity is not why I started my blog but, I too, am extremely grateful and at times overwhelmed, by all the support I’ve received over the last six months (yikes… I’ve just realised, we’re halfway through the challenge already!). It’s an amazing feeling to hear how others are enjoying reading your content – I could never have imagined reaching over 100 followers and over 1,000 views in half a year! It truly blows my mind every single day – so a big THANK YOU!

What makes me follow a blog or like a post? Hmmm, well there isn’t a set formula for this one – I guess if I share interests with the other blogger, like the meaning behind their content or their passion and integrity is shining through, that is enough to make me want to keep an eye out for their future posts.

Another award… this time the Quartet of Radiance!

The lovely Monique over at Mind of Monique has presented me with the incredible Quartet of Radiance Award! This amazing honour came only a week and a half after my Liebster Award nomination, so I couldn’t believe it! I was literally floating on cloud nine the entire day.

I’ve tried to find the origins of this award but it has proven pretty tricky! What I have found however, is that this award is made up of four separate ones… The Influential Blogger Award, The Awesome Blog Content Award, The Inner Peace Award and The Sunshine Award. Yikes – what an overwhelming honour!

The rules when accepting this award are:
1) Thank the person who gave you the award
2) Describe yourself using the alphabet
3) Pass the award to others
4) Notify the nominees
5) Smile from ear to ear for the rest of the day!

Success

#128: Tell us about a time where everything you’d hoped would happen actually did.

TODAY! I hoped that (even a few) people would read and enjoy my writing… yet to my astonishment I have attained 101 followers! I haven’t been able to stop smiling all day and it really has turned this grey, drizzly London day completely upside down! To be nominated for two different blogging awards as well, has completely blown my mind. I’m so grateful for these kind nominations and I will be writing about them this Saturday coming, so keep your eyes peeled!

Thanks for all your support!

What a fantastic morning!

Even though it may be raining outside (again) and it’s not even Friday yet, I had the most fantastic start to my morning… I’ve got 100 followers!!!!! Yes, a little victory dance may have taken place following this discovery. As if that wasn’t enough excitement for one day, I also awoke to find that I have been nominated for another blogging award! Eeeeek! I’ll be writing about my two award nominations this Saturday as I’ve got the whole day free… but I think I’m still in some sort of shock and am a tad overwhelmed at the loveliness that’s been shown!

Have a great day everyone and thank you for everything!

#101: Give some love to three blog posts you’ve read and loved in the past week, and tell us why they’re worth reading.

I’m really enjoying these types of prompts, where I get to express and recommend deserving bloggers’ work to other bloggers who may not have already stumbled upon them! For this prompt, I’m going to list the most recent posts that I have actually clicked ‘like’ on, therefore appearing at the top in the Posts I Like category.

The first one in my list belongs to the Metro, titled ‘11 things we miss from the 90s‘. This appealed to me primarily because I grew up in the 90s, so I got a huge nostalgic buzz travelling back down memory lane with this post. I think even if you weren’t a child in the 90s, you’ll still know all the words to Lou Bega’s Mambo No 5!

The second post in my list, is from a fellow blogger Rach, titled ‘YES!‘. Over the short period of time that I have had my blog, I have interacted with Rach the most and feel like I actually know her, which I find so lovely – to be able to get to personally know my blogging community gives you such a welcome, homely feel. I always look forward to reading her posts, as not only are we completing the same 365 Days of Writing Prompts challenge, but she is also in the exciting run up to her wedding and if I didn’t go into journalism, I wanted to be a wedding planner! I just love weddings!

The third one is from a blog that I only recently started following called bepresentyoga and the post I’m referring to is called ‘Think Happy, Be Happy‘. If you’re having a bad or stressful day, or simply want to kick start your weekend with goodness and laughter, then you NEED to click the link! There’s also a really cool yet simple message underneath the gloriously uplifting photo, so do be sure to check it out!
