25/31 Why we gotta have favourites?

25. Your five favourite blogs

Since I’ve only recently come back to WordPress, I haven’t had a chance to fully explore all of the new content new bloggers have to offer. So, to make it fair, I’ll simply list the last five blogs I’ve followed…

1) Tifness

I’ve only just taken a look at Latifa’s blog in the last couple of days and I’m not disappointed. I love to travel and I love food, so this is the perfect combination! My flatmate cannot eat wheat so we are often making gluten-free recipes when we have meals together. For example, this Sunday we made deep-fried, stuffed courgette flowers; gluten free pea and asparagus ravioli with parmesan; and sticky toffee pudding with Madagascan vanilla custard… the custard is the only part of the feast we hadn’t made from scratch. So it’s safe to say, we are serious about our food! I’m looking forward to making some of Latifa’s recipes in future 🙂

2) Wilson Reviews

Jake is someone I work with at The Week Junior and it was only last week, at our 25th issue anniversary/we won Launch of the Year at the British Media Awards drinks, that I found out he was also on WordPress. He writes about the latest and greatest movies out there, as well as recommending titles that people may not already be familiar with. Just be sure not to read too many in one go, as it’ll leave you struggling to decide which film to watch first!

3) Cooking with a Wallflower

Andrea has so many amazing recipes… all of which I would like to make. Well, I should be more specific – eat! Every time the pictures manage to make my mouth water. I don’t even have to know what it is, I just want to take a bite.

4) We Love Food

I see a trend here… I clearly love food, too! What I like about Saff and Ade is that they not only write about what they eat, they also describe the atmosphere and overall experience all the while injecting humour into each post. I may or may not be using their reviews as more of a to do list since they’re mostly London based.

5) Second blog to the right

And if you don’t get this reference… what planet do you live on?! One of my other great loves is theatre. I found this blog because of their Cirque du Soleil reviews and it was only when I took a look at what they had previously reviewed, that I discovered they also love Disney and had seen the Toddlerz Ball. I can’t wait to see what’s next!

24/31 Through the wardrobe

24. Your favourite childhood book

The one I seem to remember the most is a gorgeous hardback, embossed edition of The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. I used to love reading it because it was just so full of magic. I mean think about it… who wouldn’t want to step into their wardrobe to find a whole new land on the other side?!

If I go back even further, like pre-ten year old, I’d say my favourite books were probably and by Nick Butterworth that involved Percy the Park Keeper because his stories and illustrations were just so cute. I think I still have all of them somewhere…

21/31 Food glorious food

21. Your 10 favourite foods

Oh well this is going to be easy as I absolutely LOVE food! I’ve never been able to understand when people say they don’t like trying new foods or they only like one food group/cuisine… it baffles me since there’s so much variety out there for the tasting – quite literally!

So in no particular order…

  1. Avocado
  2. Fajitas, burritos, quesadillas, nachos, frijole…
  3. Lamb dupiaza with garlic rice, garlic naan and mango chutney
  4. Pret’s tuna and cucumber baguette with a packet of salt and vinegar crisps
  5. Tapas
  6. Dim sum
  7. Afternoon tea (of any variety)
  8. Cake or the dipping pot from Choccywoccydoodah, with a banana and white chocolate milkshake
  9. Vegetarian cottage pie
  10. Chocolate tea cakes – especially the giant ones!

Blank is the new blank

#294: Click over to your favorite blog, and pick out the 4th and 14th words (that aren’t “the” or “an”). Drop them into this phrase: “_____ is the new _____.” There’s your post title. Now write!

Lucky is the new carpet

Taken from: The National Television Awards 2014

Since I couldn’t decide on my favourite post (with almost 300 to choose from, it’s a pretty big ask of any blogger this far into the challenge), I decided to see what the blogging communities favourite was… and ta-dah! I also changed it a little, in choosing the 5th word instead of the 4th – I think some how “was is the new carpet” just didn’t make any sense… although I agree that “lucky is the new carpet” is equally as strange.

This could mean however, since being lucky is the new carpet, that people take it for granted by simply walking all over it, showing no appreciation. Carpet provides you with warmth and comfort regardless of the situation, which could also translate as a feeling when experiencing luck.

It would be great to hear more thoughts on my new saying…

Toy story

#255: What was your favourite plaything as a child? Do you see any connection between your life now, and your favourite childhood toy?

Sadly to admit, I don’t remember having a favourite plaything. I remember as a really tiny toddler not being able to go anywhere without my fluffy toy lamb (which then got renamed ‘flat lamb’ as I used to cuddle it so much that, you’ve guessed it, it went as flat as a pancake!), but that was about it. I’m sure my mum would know if I had a favourite plaything growing up though.

And yes, to answer your burning question, I do still have my beloved flat lamb!

These boots were made for walkin’

#236: Tell us about your favourite pair of shoes, and where they’ve taken you.

I would have to say my black Converse hi-tops as I pretty much live in them. I’m lucky enough that the magazine I work for is quite casual – plus in recent years hi-tops have become quite fashionable and more acceptable to wear on nights out, which is a bonus. I think I’m already on my third pair in just over three years – which to be fair is pretty decent going. I used to work in retail so for 20 hours a week across two years, I’d be walking about in them. I think I’ll always be wearing them… well, not for my wedding as some brides are now choosing. But hey, each to their own!

Share the love

#95: Tell us about another blogger who has influenced your own online journey.

Since I only began blogging on New Years Day this year, I have yet to find one blogger that has influenced the way I write my own posts. That said, I always look forward to reading posts from the following bloggers, as they’re either completing the same blogging challenge (so it’s always nice to compare prompt responses) or they’re just generally fun and uplifting… Or both!
